3. How we use information

We use information to:

4. AI-generated learning content

Topic prompts and related learning information may be transmitted securely to our backend and AI service providers to generate personalized lessons. Do not submit highly sensitive personal information that is not necessary for learning.

AI-generated material can be incomplete or inaccurate. Cognito is an educational aid and does not provide medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice. You should verify important information using reliable sources.

5. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers only as needed to operate Cognito, comply with law, or protect users and the service.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to investigate fraud or security issues, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.

6. Advertising and consent

Cognito uses Google AdMob to display rewarded ads and limited interstitial ads. Google and its partners may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, app interactions, ad impressions, and related information to deliver, measure, prevent fraud in, and personalize ads where permitted.

Your device settings, region, age eligibility, and consent choices may affect whether ads are personalized. You can learn more through Google's Privacy Policy and manage certain advertising choices through your Apple or Google account and device privacy settings.

7. Data retention and security

We retain account and learning information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why it is processed.

Some learning information is stored locally on your device for performance and offline access. You can remove generated learning data through Settings > Clear Learning Data. Local deletion may not delete your server account or information retained for legal and security purposes.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. However, no network transmission or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

8. Your choices and privacy rights

  • Notifications: Change Cognito's reminder schedule in the app or disable notification permission in device settings.
  • Advertising: Manage tracking and ad-personalization choices through the consent prompt, device settings, Apple settings, or Google settings where available.
  • Learning data: Use Settings > Clear Learning Data to remove generated topics, lessons, and progress stored by the app.
  • Access, correction, or deletion: Contact us using the email below. We may request verification before acting on a request.
  • Authentication: You may also manage permissions through your Apple or Google account.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, or appeal a decision. We will respond according to applicable law.

To request full account deletion, email privacy@cognito.app from the address associated with your Cognito account. Account deletion is different from clearing learning data.

9. Children's privacy

Cognito is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from such children without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.

10. International data processing

Cognito and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Cognito changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. We may provide an additional in-app notice when changes are material.
